MOBILE DATA CENTERS BECOMING MAINSTREAM

The portable datacenter market has matured in recent times and now offers a broader range of vendor services, customers are also now accepting the technology as mainstream. Now the market views portable data center facilities as a viable "permanent" business option, rather than a temporary alternative.

Mobile data centres have been around in one form or another for years. But the market has been hampered by the global recession, which is forcing businesses to cut back or delay data centre projects, which could include using mobile data centres. Once the economy stabilizes and begins to grow, the mobile data center space should see an uptick and become a healthy market.

One of the main reason is, many DC has running with old server farm with legacy tech. It needs to be migrated to latest green computing environment and secondly to look for SaaS working model though there is some security threats and vulnerability and but major networking/Security product vendors are already inaction to overcome this big hole. So good option for SMB's can think of moving to SaaS/cloud coputing framework model and big corporate too once security area is tighten and reduce over all CO2 foot print

Some of the Early Vendors in this space are Sun Micro Systems, IBM, HP. Mobile data centers are offering advantages such as lower capital costs, faster time-to-market, flexibility and ease of use.

There is one serious and important issue which have to be addressed. Energy consumption and cooling requirements by today's data centers.

The data center industry is the fourth largest producer of carbon dioxide emissions, accounting for 3 percent of global pollution, according to the US Department of Energy (DEP). The DEP predicts that if the industry continues at its current pace, 14 new coal plants will need to be built by the year 2012 in order to support that growth.

"We really believe that as the data demands grow and computing power increases, data center infrastructure will have to become more energy efficient otherwise rising energy costs will make even the smallest data center a losing economic proposition."

Why "losing" - this may be a viable proposition.
