Who are we to decide whether one is working for money or for the service? It is our patients who will decide what we are. The cost of finishing a course in medicine and become a doctor requires millions of rupees. All the parents are not rich. Many sell their lands and jewels and even houses to get their dream child become a doctor. And then society asks the doctor to do service for humanity and free cost. Is it not the duty of a child to help and serve back their family and take care of them be earning who have sacrificed so much. The health industry is no longer a just service. It is high time we follow the Robin Hood concept. Charge the rich if they can pay and give them the best service ethically and help the poor and even treat them freely but not hurting the dignity. It is no right of any body to keep one's house burning and lighing the candle of our neighbour with the same fire. Come on friends grow up and move on and change with the new world. Last year our organization Home Health Care (www.homehealthcare.co.in/ hhcbengaluru@yahoo.co.in) did more than 150 health checkup camps free and served more than 5000 people in and around Bangalore. All these funded by the paid 25 camps which we conducted in the main city of Bangalore. If we can do it every one else can do it. If you want to bring social equality and help the poor we need not be poor. Based on the patients capability charge and if needed do it free. It will be great if you can mention the sides of the debate Mr.Thyagarajan. In my opinion serving the humanity is more satisfying than earning money. Doctors and surgeons are like Gods to their patients and their relatives. There are many doctors who charge a huge some of fees, without providing quality treatment. They are using their profession just to make money. But i believe that most of the doctors in our country are not like that, they are dedicated to provide their service to the patients who are in need, rather than chagring fees. Doctors at government hospitals should work with dedication and service mind to provide quality medical care to the poor people in the rural areas.

A doctor is a person who is an EXPERT to advise and recommend action on the discomforts that we have!! This is a very VITAL profession that humankind has to thank itself for. They are like us. They need air to breathe, food & water to survive and money to run their homes as well. Just because they are a service to mankind does not exempt them from paying for their livelihood. Also, to keep in mind is the course fees that need to be paid. Sacrifices that these people do just to serve us. Its a gratification less job. The only compensation that they seek is in terms of money for the expertise rendered to correct a heart problem, or an eye or intestine or lungs!! How many people here have stood in front of a decomposed body to understand how to deal with it??? I havent and I dont think I would be able to... (unless I am ruthlessly drunk)!! The hazards of being a Doctor are much higher and then after that they are always exposed to an 'unsuccessful operation' which may not be their doing at all. But they brave the abuses of people and the cacophony of bereaved relatives and still are ready to perform at beck and call!! I have great respect for this profession. If you are talking about who made them so commercial minded?? Ask the Hospital owners please. They would have an agenda that would tell you whether Doctors are money minded or its the opther way round!!

A doctor like any other professional is ultimately working for money, but the diffrence is that as per the need of his patients he gives them importance while forgettiing his own personal needs. Even when a doctor is working in a Privet Set Up he is answerable to his patients and ultimately to himself. The charges in privet centre is high but at the same time the quality of care given is better, when compared to governement centre. Here also the doctor gives the same importance to the life of the patient which is supposed to be given. At times out of need of the patients doctors remain the whole time with a patient when he/she is critical. Monetry gain is an important aspect, but not always the most crucial.
